In 2055, artificial intelligence created by the US government detonated a nuclear warhead in the sky over Los Angeles, California. 

In response, the United States and its Western allies pledged to wipe AI from Earth to prevent human extinction. 

Their efforts faced opposition from New Asia, a region in Southeast Asia whose population continues to use AI despite opposition from the West. 

The US military launches a massive military campaign against AI, seeking to assassinate "Nirmata", the mysterious chief architect behind AI advances in New Asia. 

USS NOMAD (North American Orbital Mobile Aerospace Defense) is being developed as an advanced space station capable of carrying out destructive strikes from orbit. 

A decade after the destruction of Los Angeles, American Sergeant Joshua Taylor is assigned as an undercover agent in New Asia and marries Maya, whom the American military believes is Nirmata's daughter. 

When American forces attack their home, revealing to Maya that Taylor is a secret agent seeking to use Maya to find Nirmata, the pregnant Maya flees but is seemingly killed in an attack by NOMAD then. 

Five years later, Taylor is working on the Ground Zero cleanup team in Los Angeles. 

He is approached by General Andrews and Colonel Howell, who recruit him for a mission to locate and destroy a new weapon designed by Nirmata, the "Alpha O", said to be capable of destroying destroy the NOMAD platform and thus change the balance of the war.support AI. 

To recruit him, they release a video showing Maya alive and suggesting that he can track her down and reunite with her if he joins the team. 

In New Asia, separated from the rest of the attack team, Taylor attempts to enter the compound believed to contain weapons but only discovers a robot "simulator" in the form of a child. 

It is revealed that the girl has the ability to control technology remotely. Naming himself "Alphie", Taylor disobeys Howell's orders to kill the simulator and heads with Alphie to the provincial capital to find Drew, Taylor's former commander.

 Examining Alphie, Drew tells Taylor that she has the potential to become the most powerful weapon on the planet as her ability to manipulate technology will increase exponentially. 

New Asian cops attack Drew's apartment, killing his fake girlfriend Kami as Howell and squad member McBride grow closer. 

With Drew's help, Taylor locates Maya's beacon but is unable to find it and the group is attacked again. 

Before dying, Drew told Taylor that the raid five years ago happened because the army knew Maya was Nirmata. 

Taylor and Alphie are captured by Neo-Asian forces led by Harun, a sim soldier and Taylor's former ally, and taken to their village. 

Harun said that the tragedy in Los Angeles was due to human coding errors and that the US government unfairly blamed AI, which only wanted to live peacefully with humanity; Maya became the second Nirmata after her father's death. 

After escaping her captors, Taylor rescues Alphie and prepares to flee while Howell leads an attack on the village. 

Alphie intervenes using her abilities but is seriously injured by McBride. 

She is taken to Nirmata, who Taylor learns has been in a coma since the attack at her home, cared for by simulated monks. 

Since the simulations cannot harm Nirmata, she is "stuck" and cannot die. It is also revealed that Alphie is based on Joshua and Maya's unborn daughter, who was scanned in utero. 

Distressed, Taylor removes Maya from life support when Howell and his forces arrive. 

They are killed by Harun, who tells Taylor that NOMAD must be destroyed for the war to end. 

Taylor and Alphie were captured by American forces and taken to Los Angeles, where Taylor was forced to kill Alphie with an electric shock weapon. 

However, Andrews later discovered this was a ruse and the two escaped before Alphie was cremated. 

Boarding the lunar shuttle at the Los Angeles Interplanetary Air and Space Port, Alphie forces the spacecraft to land aboard NOMAD just as Andrews orders a full-scale attack on the remaining AI bases around the world. . Taylor sets off timed explosives while Alphie turns off the ship's power.

 Before Taylor can reach the escape pod, Andrews activates a tentacled robot that prevents him from entering, and Taylor is forced to eject the car with Alphie inside. 

When NOMAD explodes, stopping the attack, Taylor finds a simulant resembling Maya, which Alphie activated using a memory chip containing the information Taylor downloaded to Maya when he removed her from her.
